The False Messiah Complex (& how it stops awakening in its tracks!)

The Messiah complex is the idea that a divine saviour who has all the spiritual answers that we don’t, will rescue us from the pain, confusion, blocks or helplessness in our lives and awakening journeys.

It points to the answers being outwith ourselves, and reinforces the perspective that we have no autonomy - that we do not have the ability, wisdom or power to save ourselves.

When we adopt this spiritual hierarchy for ourselves, we affirm the reality that the answers that we seek are held by someone else, engendering an endless cycle of dependency that can never be satiated, keeping us powerless and firmly locking our awakening progress thus far in a frustrating state of unending stasis and spiritual co-dependency.

Yet, it is in identifying and resolving the root of these very difficulties that we face in life that we surpass this test and catalyse our sacred breakthrough to become our own divine saviour. Our internal wisdom rises to the fore and we make decisions from a place of alignment with our higher self and the Universal energies. We access our inner knowing purely because we acknowledge the truth that it is already there inside of us.

Therefore, it is only in releasing the belief that we need a saviour to right our ship that we free ourselves from its disempowering entanglement, and actively awaken the innate wisdom that is, and always was, within.

In doing so, we discover that this perceived higher spiritual authority was never there to give us the answers we sought, but to reveal to us our misalignment. It is the emptiness of the pursuit that forces us to turn inward, and there, we unmute the voice of our own inner authority, embody our highest self and access connection to our divine autonomy, where our inner voice blends with the supportive insight of Source.

Radical honesty is the most brave, direct spiritual confrontation you’ll ever have with yourself.

Yet, when we acknowledge it for ourselves and illuminate it in divine light, we reveal to the world not our idiosyncratic flaws, but the spiritual virtues of truth, inner cohesion, self acceptance and self assuredness. In doing so, we inspire others to illuminate themselves too, and collectively create a ripple of compassionate, loving acceptance that banishes dark energies in the brilliance of true spiritual enlightenment.
